Everton are interested in signing ‘exceptional’ Newcastle leader in next few days

When Everton and Newcastle United fans recall players who have spent time at both clubs over the years, perhaps legendary names such as Peter Beardsley and Duncan Ferguson first spring to mind.

And for those who are good on a quiz night, the likes of Dan Gosling and Sylvain Distin won’t be too far behind.

However, there could now be a new name on that coveted Everton and Newcastle list, as we approach the end of the summer transfer window.

So far this summer, Everton have made some astute signings, Tim Iroegbunam impressed on debut and the likes of Jesper Lindstrom and Jake O’Brien should soon contribute well.

But it’s hard to argue that Sean Dyche’s starting XI has improved, Amadou Onana remains a big loss.

That being said, things could look a little more rosy were Kieran Trippier to arrive from Newcastle in the coming week or so.

And via journalist David Ornstein, who shared his update for , that’s now a deal that looks very possible.

Trippier wants to leave Newcastle before the end of the month, and Everton need a right-back.

Newcastle defender Kieran Trippier could be reunited with Sean Dyche at Everton

Trippier was recently overlooked when Newcastle handed the captain’s armband to Bruno Guimaraes, a moment which felt significant at the time.

Trippier sat on the bench and watched as Tino Livramento played at right-back at St James’ Park on Saturday, and the writing appeared to be on the wall then.

Everton have now held initial talks with Newcastle over signing the England full-back, who turns 34 next month.

Dyche enjoyed a very successful time with Trippier at Burnley in the past, and Everton would intend to use the ‘exceptional’ defender in his preferred position at right-back.

Of course, given that Newcastle already have 35-year-old Seamus Coleman and 39-year-old Ashley Young who can operate in the role, the club certainly wouldn’t be lacking experience.

And for Newcastle, it seems as if Trippier has very quickly become a symbol of their past, even if he has been crucial during Eddie Howe’s tenure.

Galatasaray were interested in Trippier earlier this summer, and it now seems as if the England international is almost certain to start a new chapter.
