Merseyside derby between Everton and Liverpool postponed as Storm Darragh hits UK
Everton and Liverpool have confirmed that Saturday’s Merseyside derby against Liverpool has been called off due to adverse weather conditions brought about by Storm Darragh.
The Toffees were due to host Liverpool in a Premier League game originally scheduled to kick off at 12:30pm GMT.
However, the dangerous weather conditions caused after Storm Darragh hit the UK have led to the game being postponed in the interests of supporter safety.
“Today’s Merseyside derby at Goodison Park has been postponed due to adverse weather conditions,” Everton announced in a post on X. “Full details to follow.”

Liverpool also put out a statement confirming the postponement of the match.
‘Liverpool FC can confirm today’s Premier League fixture against Everton at Goodison Park, scheduled for a 12.30pm kick-off, has been postponed,’ read the statement.
‘This is due to severe weather and high winds, which have also resulted in severe travel disruption in and around Merseyside.
‘Following a Safety Advisory Group meeting this morning at Goodison Park, attended by officials from both clubs, as well as representatives from Merseyside Police and Liverpool City Council, it was decided that due to the risk to safety in the local area, and the amber severe wind warning that remains in place until 6am on Sunday, today’s match is postponed on safety grounds.
‘We appreciate this will be deeply disappointing for supporters, but the safety of fans, staff and players is of paramount importance.
‘Information relating to a rearranged date for the fixture, including ticketing, will be announced in due course.’
The arrival of Storm Darragh brought with it an amber weather warning from the Met Office.
The forecaster predicted that Merseyside could be hit by gusts reaching up to 70mph in inland areas.
Everton and Liverpool initially put out a statement on Friday urging fans to be extra vigilant as they travelled to and from the game.
However, concerns about the severe weather led to a reassessment of the situation on Saturday morning, culminating in the decision to postpone the Merseyside derby.

On Friday, Merseyside Police issued a statement advising against non-essential travel.
It read, as per the : “We are advising members of the public to stay safe, plan ahead and avoid any non-essential travel until conditions have improved. Residents are advised to check the relevant local authority pages for details.
If you need to make an essential journey during the storm, please plan ahead and drive carefully.
“Remember to give vulnerable road users including cyclists, motorcyclists and pedestrians more room than usual. They are more likely to be blown around by side winds – always keep a safe distance.
“Those using public transport are advised to check for any disruption before they travel.”
All games in Wales, including Newport v Carlisle in League Two and the full Cymru Premier programme, have been postponed.
Wales has been issued with a red weather warning in place from 3am to 11am on Saturday 7 December.
