European club now awaiting Newcastle’s substantial offer for defender with ‘impressive pace’

Newcastle United have made three additions so far this summer but are now desperately trying to bring in a defender.

Eddie Howe is hoping to return to European football this season after narrowly missing out last term and to do that, he feels a centre-back is needed.

Newcastle want to sign Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi, though, that deal is proving to be really expensive so they could turn to other options.

One of them being a defender on the continent…

Toulouse await Newcastle bid for Logan Costa

According to , Toulouse are now awaiting a substantial offer from Newcastle United for centre-back Logan Costa.

The Magpies have already made an initial enquiry about the 23-year-old and it’s thought they have no issue in meeting his £21m price tag.

The French outfit have already knocked back a £12.8m bid from Bologna, who are now concerned they’ll lose out to Newcastle and have started to look at other targets.

West Ham United are also keen on Costa.

Indeed, for the Tynesiders, this whole deal appears to be totally dependent on Guehi and if they manage to sign him from Palace.

Logan Costa profile

Costa, who has ‘impressive pace’ per , is a towering centre-back standing at 6 ft 3 and is a natural right-footer, so he’d provide direct competition for Fabian Schar if he were to join.

The 2001-born, who has been capped 19 times by Cape Verde’s national team, made 31 Ligue 1 appearances last term, helping his side to an 11th-placed finish.

Costa’s passing statistics are particularly impressive as he ranks in the top 20 per cent for progressive passes per 90 compared to his positional peers across Europe, as per .
