Espanyol manager makes exciting claim about on-loan Tottenham striker Alejo Veliz after late winner

Since he joined Tottenham Hotspur last summer, it’s fair to say that Alejo Veliz hasn’t had the easiest of starts to life in north London.

In fact, it may be more accurate to say that Veliz didn’t have the easiest beginnings in Spain – his loan at Sevilla wasn’t as fruitful as imagined.

Joining the club on loan last January, the Tottenham youngster made just six appearances and spent 31 minutes on the pitch in a Sevilla shirt.

The 20-year-old wasn’t able to show his talent, but fortunately it seems as if Veliz will get that chance at Espanyol.

Veliz has already made four appearances for his new side on loan and played 314 minutes, a fresh new start.

In all honesty, newly-promoted Espanyol seem better positioned to give Veliz chances, and perhaps it was slightly ambitious believing that young Argentinian would walk into the team at Sevilla.

Tottenham told Alejo Veliz has ‘great future’ after late goal

Speaking via Spanish outlet , Espanyol’s manager Manolo Gutierrez was incredibly complimentary about Veliz after he scored a winner in the 96th minute for his side on Saturday.

Veliz, who was handed the number nine shirt at the club, started up top in what looked like a fairly traditional 4-4-2.

And when commenting on his performance, Gutierrez was convinced that Veliz will get better with every passing game – good news for Tottenham supporters.

Gutierrez said: “He has a great future in European football . He is very young (20 years old) and he has to go through a toll that we all have to go through.

“He will continue to grow and every day we will see a better player.”

Alejo Veliz could replace Richarlison at Tottenham next season

Although he ended up staying at the club this summer, Tottenham were prepared to sell Richarlison for the right price.

Ange Postecoglou has seemingly concluded that the Brazilian doesn’t quite suit his style, he’s evidently much more happy with Dominic Solanke up top.

Of course, Richarlison wanted to stay at Spurs after all, believing he has unfinished business in north London.

But if Tottenham had found an exit for the forward this summer, perhaps they would have signed another striker.

However, if Richarlison is staying for another season, or six-months at least, then perhaps the timing could lend well to Veliz returning from loan to backup Solanke in the 2025/26 campaign.
