Erik ten Hag told he’s made three signings at Man United which Sir Jim Ratcliffe will no longer allow

Gabriel Agbonlahor feels there will be a change of approach in the transfer market at Manchester United after the arrival of Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

It’s fair to say that Manchester United haven’t exactly been on the money when it comes to their recruitment in recent years.

The Red Devils have often been criticised for paying way over the odds for players, particularly over the past few windows.

While the jury is still out on the likes of Mason Mount, who has endured a difficult start to life at Old Trafford due to injuries, Gabriel Agbonlahor is less convinced by the signings of Antony, Casemiro and Raphael Varane

Ten Hag told Ratcliffe will no longer allow poor signings

Speaking on , Agbonlahor criticised Erik ten Hag over his decision to bring in Antony.

“Ratcliffe won’t have these signings any more,” the former Aston Villa captain said. “He won’t let Ten Hag go out and buy Antony for £70 million, he won’t let him go and buy Varane and Casemiro.

“Mason Mount, yes, he’s been injured and he’s a decent player but the amount of money they have wasted on Mount, Casemiro, Antony, Varane has done okay but hasn’t been outstanding.

“The only one who has done outstanding is Hojlund, I said from the start he is Man United’s Haaland, and he will do well for them.

“Martinez can be a top centre-half, he’s strong and good on the ball. I just don’t think Ratcliffe will have any of these players at the end of their career thinking they can come to Man United for their last big payday, like Varane and Casemiro.”

The hope among United’s supporters is certainly that Ratcliffe and INEOS will bring about huge changes on and off the pitch.

There have already been some positive moves behind the scenes, with United landing former Manchester City chief Omar Berrada.

It’s fair to say that Antony certainly hasn’t made the impact many would have expected after his big-money move from Ajax.

As for Varane and Casemiro, some would argue that both players contributed to a successful debut campaign for Ten Hag last time out.

But when you consider the fact that both players are entering the latter stages of their careers, United have probably overpaid for the duo.
