Erik Ten Hag responds when asked if he wants to sign Tottenham’s ‘most skilful player’

Ajax boss Erik Ten Hag was asked about his side’s reported interest in Tottenham Hotspur attacker Steven Bergwijn ahead of the January transfer window.
revealed recently that Spurs boss Antonio Conte doesn’t fancy the skilful winger at all. He claimed that the Italian has only said two words to Bergwijn since his arrival, which is why a move to Ajax in January is a possibility.
It doesn’t look like Bergwijn has a future at Tottenham. The 24-year-old has played just 477 minutes of football this season. Only three of those minutes have come under Conte, which should tell you everything you need to know.
A move to Ajax would be brilliant for him and Ten Hag hasn’t really ruled out an interest.

The Ajax boss was quizzed about his plans for the January transfer window. Bergwijn has been a very popular name in the rumour mill, and Ten Hag claims that his side will pounce if an opportunity to sign a good player arises.
He told , as quoted by : “I am satisfied with this selection. Of course, we are always looking, but it has to be the right choice. Just like with Sebastien Haller last year. If a good opportunity arises, we will not fail to do it.
“I may repeat myself, but we want to improve. If there is an option for that, we will investigate it. Whether we also investigate Bergwijn’s situation? We investigate everything. We are professionals.
“I can’t promise anyone a starting place. (But) Do you want to take up the challenge? Do you want to get better? Do you want to have fun playing football, because we play in a certain way. If you can excel with us, you can also achieve personal goals.”

TBR View:
Bergwijn is a hugely talented player, there’s no doubt about that. When he starred on his Tottenham debut against Manchester City back in February 2020, everyone thought he’d light up the Premier League. Sadly, things haven’t quite worked out for him.
Labelled by Dele Alli as the ‘‘ at Tottenham, Bergwijn has to make a decision in January. He can stay and fight for his place under Conte, but it’s unlikely that he will play regularly this season. Or, he could push for a move back to his home country, and Ajax would be brilliant for him.
It will be interesting to see how this pans out in the next few weeks. The January transfer window is not too far away, and if everything falls into place, this deal could be completed by this time next month.
