English media deliver verdict on Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold’s performance against Finland

Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold was in fine form for England as they put Finland to the sword with a 2-0 win.

Harry Kane celebrated his 100th cap with a second-half brace as Lee Carsley notched up back-to-back wins as England’s interim head coach.

While Kane’s monumental achievement was one of the biggest talking points, fans and pundits were particularly blown away by Alexander-Arnold’s performance.

The Liverpool defender was named Man of the Match for his display against the Republic of Ireland and once again bagged the award after a scintillating showing against Finland.

And the English media showered high praise on the 25-year-old who finally seems to be coming into his own for the national team.

Alexander-Arnold notched up an assist for Kane’s opener and started the move for his second as he showed his class on the ball.

gave him a rating of eight out of ten, saying: “Carsley was fairly adamant that Alexander-Arnold would be used as a right-back but he was given his usual green light to drift into midfield this evening, too.”

“The Liverpool defender threatened to create throughout the first half and it was his pass that dissected the Finland midfield to find Kane for the opener.”

The hailed Alexander-Arnold as the best player on the pitch and lauded his ability to effortlessly break defensive lines.

“England’s best player. Five or six stunning passes that carved the Finns open.

“Got an assist for one of his more routine passes thanks to Kane’s brilliant strike, then created the second with a ball for Madueke.”

went one step further, rating his performance nine out of ten: “A creative force going forward, playing some sensational passes to try and pick Finland apart.

“Unsurprisingly grabbed the assist for Kane’s opener and started the move for the second.”

And finally, rated him eight out of ten, suggesting that it was a productive two weeks with the national team for the gifted Scouser.

“Flashed a first-half shot just wide of the goal, sent a free-kick wide and set up Kane. This has been a good camp for Alexander-Arnold.”

Jody Morris described Alexander-Arnold as a world-class player and judging by his recent displays, he finally seems to be living up to his billing for the Three Lions.

Alexander-Arnold had a staggering 115 touches of the ball and boasted a pass accuracy of 87% (82/94 passes completed) as he finished the game with five key passes completed.

The Liverpool vice-captain made one tackle and also won one duel as he emerged with a rating of 8.3, making him the highest-rated player on the pitch barring Kane (9.3).

Gary Lineker was blown away by Alexander-Arnold’s passing range after England’s 2-0 win against Ireland, hailing him as an ‘extraordinary’ talent in that regard.

Paul Merson’s assessment of the Liverpool man also makes for interesting reading, with the Arsenal great claiming Alexander-Arnold’s passing range is up there with Kevin De Bruyne’s.

The 25-year-old has started the season in fine form and will look to carry on his momentum as Liverpool aim to oversee a new era under Arne Slot.
