England will look to reach another final at Euro 2024 this summer, and TBR Football checks out the Three Lions’ possible route so you know what days to book off work.
Coach Gareth Southgate guided England into their first major final since the 1966 World Cup three years ago. But penalty heartbreak at Wembley saw Italy beat the Three Lions for their second European Championship title. It was even the first time that England made the final.
Marcus Rashford missed from the spot before Gianluigi Donnarumma denied Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka in the Euro 2020 final. Italy could now become only the second country to secure back-to-back titles after Spain in 2008 and 2012 by winning in Germany this summer.

Germany and Spain are also the only three-time Euro champions and will start their bid for a fourth in Groups A and B in 2024. UEFA drew England in Group C, while Italy will launch their defence of the crown from the group of death – Group B – with La Roja, Croatia and Albania.
So, with that in mind, TBR Football has looked at the possible route England will take to the Euro 2024 final so you know what days to book off work to not miss a second of the action.
The possible route England will take to the Euro 2024 final
England started what Southgate hopes is their route to the Euro 2024 final on June 16 as the Three Lions kicked off Group C. Winning the group gave England a last 16 tie on June 30, as well, which Southgate will hope leads into a quarter-final on July 6 and semi-final on July 10.
England’s Euro 2024 group

UEFA drew England to play Serbia, Denmark and Slovenia in Group C at Euro 2024. It marked the first time that the Three Lions had ever met Serbia across all competitions. England had played Denmark and Slovenia previously, and also held good records against both countries.
Serbia further marked the first of England’s three Group Stage games and yielded a 1-0 win. The result proved to be the Three Lions’ only win in the group stage as Denmark came from behind to hold Southgate’s side to a 1-1 draw before England took a 0-0 draw with Slovenia.
England often looked tired and out of ideas throughout the group stage as Southgate sought to experiment with Trent Alexander-Arnold in their midfield. Phil Foden also struggled in all three Group C ties to make an impression on the left wing beside Kieran Trippier at left-back.
But five points proved enough for England to win Group C as Denmark and Slovenia drew all three of their ties for second and third places. Jude Bellingham headed home Saka’s cross to give England a 1-0 win against Serbia, while Harry Kane found the back of Denmark’s goal.

England face Slovakia in the round of 16 of Euro 2024
The round of 16 at Euro 2024 features the two top nations from the six groups, plus the four best-ranked third-placed countries. England advanced to the last 16 as the Group C winners, which set up a knockout round date with one of the third-placed sides from Group D, E or F.
Group D was one of the Euro 2024 groups of death after UEFA drew the Netherlands against France, Poland and Austria. UEFA also put Ukraine in Group E to meet Slovakia, Belgium and Romania, while Portugal, Czech Republic, Georgia and Turkey also faced off to win Group F.
It first seemed likely the Three Lions would face the Netherlands in the round of 16, as well. But England secured a match with Slovakia for their Euro 2024 last 16 tie after Georgia took a shock 2-0 win over Portugal. It saw Georgia leapfrog Hungary for the last third-place spot.
UEFA had already set out a grid format to decide which nations faced a third-place side that did not reflect their group stage results. Georgia’s victory over Portugal ensured the grid for the round of 16 schedule changed from ACDE to CDEF and set up England and Slovakia’s tie.

England’s possible Euro 2024 quarter-final
England will play in game 40 of Euro 2024 during the round of 16 after winning Group C. The Three Lions may also face a date with destiny in game 48 if England win their last 16 fixture. Game 48 is the last of the three possible quarter-final games that England might have faced.
Victory over Slovakia in the last 16 would also see England progress to face either of Italy or Switzerland in the quarter-finals. A date with the Azzurri would offer the Three Lions a shot at revenge for their Euro 2020 final defeat. England last met Switzerland at a Euros in 2004.
- Game 48: Saturday, July 6 – kick-off 17:00 BST: England or Slovakia vs Switzerland or Italy – Dusseldorf
England’s possible Euro 2024 semi-final
England’s possible route to the Euro 2024 final may see Southgate’s side head to Dortmund in the semi-finals. The Three Lions will play at the home of Borussia Dortmund in the second of the two semi-finals, possibly giving England a day’s less rest ahead of the Euro 2024 final.
Coming through their last 16 tie with Slovakia and a quarter-final against Switzerland or Italy would see England face one of Romania, the Netherlands, Austria or Turkey in the Euro 2024 semi-finals. Spain, Germany, Portugal, France and Belgium are in the other side of the draw.

Euro 2024 final

UEFA scheduled the Euro 2024 final for Sunday, July 14 and kick-off at the Olympiastadion in Berlin is scheduled for 20:00 BST. The Olympiastadion will boast a capacity of 71,000 fans for the Euro 2024 final and it is one of the biggest stadiums hosting ties for the tournament.
The winner in game 49 of Euro 2024 will earn home designation for the final having won the first of the semi-finals, with the winners from game 50 receiving the role of the away finalist. England were the designated away team in the Euro 2020 final, despite it being at Wembley.
The Euro 2024 final also takes place on effectively the same weekend of the year as the Euro 2020 showpiece. Wembley held Italy’s win over England on penalties in the Euro 2020 final on July 7, 2021. The Euro 2020 final also kicked off at 20:00 BST, like the Euro 2024 final will.
Fans can watch the Euro 2024 final live on TV in the UK through the BBC or ITV. Additionally, ITV will stream all of the broadcasters’ games throughout Euro 2024 live via ITVX, STV and STV Player. The BBC will also make its selection of Euro 2024 games available via the iPlayer.
