England under-21 manager shares Morgan Rogers verdict after Aston Villa star scores twice
Morgan Rogers has certainly been a force to be reckoned with at Aston Villa so far this season, and the forward has taken his form straight to England’s under-21 side.
Rogers made his debut for the under-21s whilst Lee Carsley was in charge, which perhaps bodes well for him one day playing for the senior side whilst playing for Aston Villa.
Of course, that will depend on Carsley being handed the gig full-time, a decision that still seems to be up in the air.
That being said, in the here and now, Rogers delivered a stunning performance for England against Austria’s under-21s at Kenilworth Road on Monday evening.
England won the match 4-1 and Rogers scored his country’s opening two goals playing alongside Samuel Iling-Junior, who has just left Villa for a season-long loan at Bologna.
Interim coach Ben Futcher stunned by Morgan Rogers’ quality for England
Ben Futcher is currently in charge of England’s youth side who are yet to appoint a new permanent coach after Carsley made the temporary, or perhaps permanent move to the senior side.
Futcher began his tenure with a solid win and then praised Rogers and his whole squad after the game, saying England’s youth team was full of quality.

Interestingly for Villa fans, Rogers’ first goal was a penalty, perhaps suggesting that the 22-year-old could compete to take spot kicks for the club after Douglas Luiz’s exit.
Reflecting on the win via , Futcher said: “I thought we played some good football, we moved the ball across the pitch well, we were patient when needed and we created some really good chances.
“We have top players who expressed themselves and that’s what I asked of them to do.
“There’s some top talent in there and Morgan is one of them. It’s good to see him on the scoresheet – he was excellent tonight but so were other players as well.
“It was a positive night with a good team performance so we can go away happy.”
Aston Villa aren’t missing Moussa Diaby this season
With the personnel changes Unai Emery made over the summer, it appears more than ever that Villa are lining up in a 4-4-2 right now.
Rogers is often level with Ollie Watkins up top, who are both incredibly physical presences.
Both have pace and power, and Rogers’ ball carrying really does have to be commended at this point, an excellent pickup from the Championship.
Perhaps Jhon Duran is piling on the pressure to start games right now, but that seemingly won’t be at the expense of Rogers.
Duran is proving his incredible potential right now, and perhaps may even be eyeing up Watkins’ spot, even if he is also one of the most talented forwards in the league.
