England international says he left Leeds because he felt lied to, they didn’t ‘uphold their promises’
Leeds United have lost a number of very talented academy graduates over the years.
From Lewis Cook and Fabian Delph all the way back to Aaron Lennon, Leeds have often struggled to keep hold of their best young players.
Now, speaking on , another talented former young Leeds star has opened up on why he left the club.
Danny Rose would go on to play in a Champions League final and play for England 29 times, but before all that, he was on Leeds’ books.
According to Rose, he left Leeds as a teenager because they didn’t uphold the promises they made to him about gametime as he was coming through.

Why Danny Rose left Leeds
Rose spoke about his departure from Elland Road.
“Leeds promised me things if I’d stayed, and I got on the bench the following season, Kevin Blackwell got the sack and Dennis Wise wasn’t interested in playing the kids,” Rose said.
“The opportunity came round for me to watch a Spurs game, United won 4-0, Tottenham tried to make sure I wasn’t seen on TV, but my mind was made up that I was leaving because Leeds didn’t uphold their promises they made.”
Leeds’ big mistake
Hindsight is always 20/20, but it’s fair to say that Leeds made a big mistake here.
Of course, playing a youth player while you’re in the midst of a relegation battle isn’t easy, but, as Rose has since shown, he could’ve been a seriously valuable asset for Leeds.
Even if he didn’t stay for long, the money Leeds could’ve received from selling Rose later down the line really could’ve helped their financial issues at the time.
Unfortunately, Leeds didn’t get this one right, and this is another story of an academy graduate who left the club way too soon.
