Emmanuel Petit predicts who will win between Arsenal and Brighton

As the dust settles following a thrilling transfer window for Arsenal, attention swiftly turns to the Gunners’ next Premier League fixture.

On Friday night, Arsenal wrapped up the late loan signings of Neto and Raheem Sterling, while Aaron Ramsdale, Eddie Nketiah and Reiss Nelson all left during the day.

Just over 13 hours later, the Gunners will be kicking off against Brighton & Hove Albion in Saturday’s 12:30pm kick-off.

Arsenal have won both of their opening league games by two goals to nil, beating Wolves in their season opener before seeing off Aston Villa on the road.

Meanwhile, Brighton have got off to a flyer under Fabian Hurzeler, thrashing Everton on the opening day of the campaign before stunning Manchester United at the Amex.

Emmanuel Petit backs Arsenal to beat Brighton

Petit, speaking to fellow Arsenal legend David Seaman on the , was full of praise for Brighton in wake of another brilliant summer on the recruitment front.

“Unfortunately” for the Seagulls, however, Petit thinks the Gunners will be too strong at home and will hand the south coast club their first loss the season.

“It’s home, yeah,” began Petit. “Brighton, they won the first two games, I watched them. It’s amazing with this club how they work, they work very good on the transfer market.

“But as well, they change manager, they change so many players every single year, and they still compete. They’re still selling players for 50-60 million.

“But unfortunately for them I think that won’t be enough, you know, to win at the Emirates, so I think Arsenal’s going to win it.”

Arsenal v Brighton team news

Arsenal will be without several players for their meeting with Hurzeler’s charges.

Mikel Merino, who recently joined from Real Sociedad, has been ruled out for several weeks after suffering a shoulder injury in training.

Meanwhile, Takehiro Tomiyasu is sidelined with a knee problem and is yet to return to training.

Gabriel Jesus missed the win over Aston Villa with a groin injury and, while he shouldn’t be out long-term, the Brazilian is not in contention to make the Brighton game.

As for Brighton, they will also be without a new midfield signing, with Matt O’Riley having needed ankle surgery.

The former Celtic man suffered the injury within the first 10 minutes of his debut against Crawley Town on Tuesday.
