Emiliano Martinez staying at Arsenal despite interest from Leeds United and Championship rivals

Arsenal goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez will be remaining at The Emirates this summer, despite apparent interest from both Leeds United and Blackburn Rovers.

that the Argentine will now be Arsenal’s number two goalkeeper following the departures of Petr Cech and David Ospina this summer. Bernd Leno will remain Unai emery’s number one.

Martinez has been with Arsenal for nine years but the 26-year-old has spent much of that time out on loan. Last season he had a stellar run at Reading, as they survived a Championship relegation scrap.

Leeds United’s interest has been reported before. that the Arsenal stopper was next on their list if a move for Kiko Casilla failed to materialise in January.

There have been doubts over Casilla and Bailey Peacock-Farrell’s long-term futures at Leeds this summer but it now appears both will remain.

Blackburn on the other hand, sold David Raya to Brentford this summer but have replaced him with loanee Christian Walton from Brighton. It is hard to envisage where Martinez would have fitted in.

The report claims neither Championship side could ‘commit to a decent cash offer’ for the perennial loanee.

With Sevilla interest in Casilla and Burnley are looking at Peacock-Farrell, Leeds may indeed find themselves hunting for a new keeper this summer. But if either does leave, it seems Martinez is off the table as a potential replacement.
