Emi Martinez can go but ‘frustrated’ Unai Emery is still refusing to sell £100m Aston Villa star
In order to help with their PSR situation, Aston Villa could sell Emiliano Martinez to the Saudi Pro League this summer.
Emiliano Martinez has been an excellent servant for Aston Villa, but he appeared to somewhat say goodbye to the club’s supporters at the end of the season.
And whilst nothing is set in stone, Villa have been on the hunt for a new goalkeeper already this summer, and Monchi appears to be making progress.
But even if Villa are experiencing some PSR concerns, Unai Emery isn’t about to watch several of his star players leave this summer.
Leon Bailey might be another to depart Villa Park, but when it comes to those who Emery has really counted on over the last 12 months, there is more promising news.
Aston Villa PSR concerns played down amid strong Morgan Rogers stance
That being said, TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey has given an update on Villa’s situation when it comes to PSR and those who might leave the club.
And whilst Martinez and Bailey could be prime candidates to leave, Villa currently have no interest in selling either Jacob Ramsey or Morgan Rogers.

Bailey shared: “Emery is clearly frustrated with Villa’s situation, the same as Eddie Howe at Newcastle.
“Villa have done some very clever deals with Saudi Arabia, they sold Jhon Duran and Moussa Diaby for a lot of money. I don’t think Villa’s PSR concerns are as major as some people have made out.
“Villa are telling me that it’s not as big as people think. If someone is to be sold, Emi Martinez is a prime candidate, if someone goes to the Saudi Pro League it could be him.
“Villa are also going to sell Leon Bailey this summer, neither party is particularly happy with the current situation and I’m told a move to Spain or Italy is likely for him, but don’t rule out a Saudi move.
“But Martinez is the prime candidate to be sold, the club are looking around for goalkeepers and we’ve already reported their interest in Marcin Bulka.
“There’s concerns around Jacob Ramsey’s future, Villa don’t want to lose him but he could represent pure profit — there’s an awful lot of interest in Ramsey from a lot of clubs.
“But he’s such a wonderful talent and Villa don’t want to lose him, same with Morgan Rogers, he’s not for sale, according to Villa. That’s their stance.”
Monchi will need to mastermind a clever window at Villa Park
TBR Football recently shared that Villa value Rogers at over £100m, a player who just enjoyed a stunning campaign under Emery.
And whilst Villa’s firm stance on keeping Ramsey and Rogers will be greeted as good news by fans, there has been a frustrating development in terms of those who might come in.
Despite Emery’s historic interest, Villa will miss out on Alex Baena this summer, an attacking midfielder who has thrived under the Spanish manager in the past.
And although Villa’s PSR situation isn’t perilous, it will still limit some of their ambition when it comes to adding quality to their squad this summer.
Of course, those financial restrictions enforced by the Premier League are why Emery is somewhat ‘frustrated’ behind the scenes — the club do want to bring in the best players available.
But Monchi will need to be clever this summer, and moving on the likes of Martinez and Bailey might be the best idea.
