‘Emery will be gunning’… Kieran Gibbs predicts who will win, Arsenal or Aston Villa

Arsenal take on Aston Villa in the Premier League tomorrow, and Kieran Gibbs has had his say on who he thinks will win the game.

The Gunners go into this weekend on top of the Premier League table. They have been the best team in the country since the turn of the year and have it in their own hands now to go all the way.

Aston Villa are coming to town on Sunday, and Unai Emery, who has already beaten Arsenal once this season, would love nothing more than to do it again.

Gibbs, who spent over a decade as an Arsenal player, has now predicted who will win the clash at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

Kieran Gibbs predicts the winner of Arsenal vs Aston Villa

The Unai Emery derby will take place when Arsenal host Aston Villa tomorrow.

The Villans are having a tremendous season, aren’t they? They are currently fifth in the table, level on points with fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur.

Emery is doing everything he can to help his side finish in the top four and qualify for next season’s Champions League, but it will not be easy.

Villa are competing in Europe as well and played against Lille away from home just two days ago. They have a short turnaround and now have to face the Premier League leaders, Arsenal.

Mikel Arteta‘s side have been unbelievable in the Premier League this year. They have won ten and drawn one of their 11 games in 2024, scoring 38 and conceding just four goals.

That is a ridiculous record, and we’re sure Emery will be aware of that on his return to the Emirates Stadium tomorrow afternoon.

However, Kieran Gibbs has backed his old side to get the job done.

He said told : “I’m pretty confident (that Arsenal will win). Listen, as good as Aston Villa have been and can be, it’s just really difficult to see anything other than three points for Arsenal at the minute in the league.

“They are really in the zone, they’ve got a firm grip on their form. Villa have come off the boil a little bit as well. They’re going to miss big players – Douglas Luiz, Kamara.

“I do think Watkins and I think Mcginn are back as well, which is a plus for Villa. They love these type of games where they can cause upsets and stir up some trouble. And of course, Emery will be gunning to get a result.

“Obviously, by no means it’s going to be easy, but I think Arsenal are just in a certain type of mood at the moment with seven games to go. They’ve only conceded four goals in 11 games.

“Villa have had less rest and I feel like playing last this weekend will benefit them (Arsenal) as well because it’s probably a good chance that they’ll be third going into the game and I like them in that position where they’re chasing the leaders. So I’m pretty confident.”

Unai Emery’s record against Mikel Arteta will worry Arsenal fans

Unai Emery had a terrible end to his career at Arsenal – he was sacked after just 18 months at the club.

The Spaniard had a really tough job at the Emirates. He had to follow in Arsene Wenger‘s footsteps, which was always going to be difficult.

Since leaving Arsenal, however, Emery has done an incredible job. He won the Europa League again with Villarreal and has turned Aston Villa into a real force.

Arsenal will be the favourites to win the game tomorrow, but Emery has a great record against Mikel Arteta, which should concern fans of the Emirates Stadium club.

In four games between the two managers, Emery has won two, drawn one and lost another. The game he drew was when his Villarreal side already had a first-leg lead in the Europe League, while the one he lost was due to two very late goals from Arsenal last season.

Emery will tell his players that they can get the three points tomorrow, but if Arsenal want to win the Premier League this season, they cannot drop points against Aston Villa.
