‘Unplayable’ 19-year-old who left Arsenal this summer has just scored twice on debut for new club

Although it’s generally been a positive summer for Arsenal so far, the club have lost one or two youngsters with considerable potential.

If there’s one criticism you can levy at Mikel Arteta over the past few seasons it’s the lack of opportunities he’s handed the club’s Hale End talent.

Charlie Patino looks set to leave Arsenal this summer, along with Brooke Norton-Cuffy – two players omitted from the pre-season tour of the United States.

Neither were handed first team chances at Arsenal, which is perhaps a fair conclusion from Arteta – both have struggled to quite hit high the heights once expected.

But it’s been a common theme of late that big names from Hale End, ones causing excitement, are never seen in the first team picture.

The two most significant departures from the academy this summer were Amario Cozier-Duberry and Reuell Walters heading to Brighton & Hove Albion and Luton Town respectively.

Both had high hopes, both rejected contract renewals at Arsenal.

And in the case of ‘unplayable‘ Cozier-Duberry, the Gunners may already be ruing the lack of chances handed to the winger.

Amario Cozier-Duberry scores twice on Brighton debut after leaving Arsenal

Brighton faced Kashima Antlers in a friendly on Wednesday morning and won 5-1, with Cozier-Dubbery entering the action from the bench.

The former Arsenal youngster came on at half-time and managed two score two goals, the kind of poacher strikes Arteta’s side have been missing at times.

shared their rating of Cozier-Duberry’s performance after the game, hailing the 19-year-old’s potential.

They wrote: “The former Arsenal talent was given his first outing in an Albion shirt having joined this summer.

“Fired a good chance narrowly wide on 55 minutes but showed his class to tuck home a fourth. His second was equally as good. What a prospect.

Of course, from an Arsenal perspective, it has to be considered if Arteta has made the right choice in continuing to stick by the likes of Reiss Nelson when he could have promoted Cozier-Duberry last season.

In that scenario, Arsenal could have attempted to cash-in on Nelson a year earlier, or could have sent the winger out on loan for another season.

All that being said, Brazilian star Neymar has been impressed with one Arsenal forward in the club’s own pre-season.
