Eintracht Frankfurt name Hugo Ekitike asking price after Liverpool make opening £70m offer

Sources have confirmed to TBR Football that Liverpool have made an opening offer worth £70m for Hugo Ekitike.

Hugo Ekitike joined Eintracht Frankfurt permanently from Paris Saint-Germain last summer following a year on loan in the Bundesliga.

The Frenchman has played 64 games in all competitions for Frankfurt, scoring 26 goals and providing 14 assists.

And that form has been enough to convince Liverpool to seek a move to the striker, who has already agreed personal terms in principle with Arne Slot’s side.

Liverpool have engaged with Ekitike over the last 48 hours, but the major issue now is whether they can persuade Frankfurt to sell the striker.

Liverpool’s opening Hugo Ekitike bid falls short of Eintracht Frankfurt’s asking price

TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey understands that Liverpool’s opening offer is worth £70m.

However, Frankfurt have publicly demanded €100m (£86m) amid interest from Premier League sides this summer.

Arsenal registered their interest in Ekitike, as did Chelsea, but Liverpool are now pushing to complete a deal themselves.

And it’s understood that a deal nearer €90m (£78m) would actually be the German club’s true asking price, which isn’t too far from Liverpool’s opening bid.

Of course, Newcastle United have also been in discussions over a deal for Ekitike themselves very recently.

However, Newcastle have now ended negotiations to sign Ekitike, and sources at St James’ Park insist that their move for the 23-year-old was not as advanced as some have claimed.

Interestingly, when quizzed in the past, Ekitike claimed that he would love to play for Manchester United.

But given Liverpool’s dominance in the Premier League nowadays, he’s probably similarly excited by the prospect of playing his football at Anfield.

Wesley Sneijder recently claimed that Hugo Ekitike reminded him of Neymar

In terms of why Liverpool are keen to sign Ekitike, Dutch legend Wesley Sneijder has perhaps already explained why when speaking on back in March.

After watching Ekitike score against Ajax, Sneijder said that the Frenchman was like a mix between Neymar and Mbappe — which is certainly not the worst combo.

Sneijder said: “I’ll tell you, I’ve seen a lot of this boy. Now, I may say something really crazy, but I’ll say it anyway, I think he is a mix between Neymar and Mbappe. I sincerely mean that.

“He has that grace from Neymar but also the movements of Mbappe. Suddenly accelerating, that’s something Mbappe also has.

“And he is only 22 years old, there is really a lot of potential in this boy.”
