Arsenal are interested in signing Berge this summer with the Norwegian’s name featuring on Technical Director Edu’s shortlist. Albert Stuivenberg, one of Mikel Arteta’s assistants, is also a big fan of the international.

Sheffield United believe their chances of retaining Berge are slim given the interest in his services. But the South Yorkshire outfit will demand that his £35m release clause is triggered to sanction a deal.

The Blades feel they signed Berge from Genk on the cheap at £22m in January last year. An interrupted start to life in the Premier League and a hamstring injury also failed to convince them that he is worth anything less.

Berge’s camp are also not putting any pressure on Sheffield United to sell amid interest from Arsenal. He is happy to stay at Bramall Lane if that is what the club decide and will tackle the Championship with 100 per cent commitment.

Arsenal fans react to Berge transfer update

Some Arsenal fans would also be happy for Berge to stay at Sheffield United this summer, rather than move to the Emirates Stadium. That’s because they question if his role should be one of Arteta’s priority positions to strengthen.
