Arsenal have made a bid to sign Amadou Onana from Everton

Arsenal are expected to make a big signing in midfield in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Thomas Partey has been linked with a move away from the Emirates, while Jorginho and Mohamed Elneny are both out of contract in the summer.

A new midfielder is a necessity, and one player who has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal for months now is Amadou Onana of Everton.

FFP regulations prohibited the Gunners from making a move to sign the Belgian last month, but if Spanish outlet are to be believed, Everton have offers on the table from both Arsenal and Manchester United.

The report claims that Barcelona want Onana too and are willing to offer £34.2 million (€40m) for his signature. Everton, on the other hand, are holding out for £51 million (€60m), which is just too much for the Catalans.

However, for Arsenal and Manchester United, that’s a fee they can easily afford, and both clubs could do with a player like Onana in the middle of their park.

Onana is faster than every single Arsenal player

You don’t normally expect a 6ft 5in defensive midfielder to be rapid, but Amadou Onana is not your ordinary number six.

The Belgian is a terrific player. He can win duels for days and is excellent off the ball, but one thing he probably doesn’t get enough credit for is his blistering pace.

Onana registered a top speed of 36.65 kmph against Liverpool earlier this season (). That is absolutely rapid – faster than any current Arsenal player.

According to , William Saliba is the Gunners’ fastest player with a top speed of 34 kmph. Gabriel Martinelli, Leandro Trossard and Bukayo Saka come next on the list, and none of them are anywhere near Onana’s pace.

Imagine the Belgian next to Declan Rice in Arsenal’s midfield – that would be a frightening partnership.
