Edouard takes his Celtic chance in absence of Griffiths

The battle between Odsonne Edouard and Leigh Griffiths is an interesting one.

Now that Moussa Dembele has left Celtic, it is a two-horse race for the starting striker spot.

And with Griffiths out injured, it was imperative that Edouard impressed in the league trip to Dundee last night.

Edouard turned in a top performance and has surely overtaken Griffiths in Rodgers’ pecking order.

Even when the Scotland international returns from injury, he will face a battle to win his place back from Edouard now.

The Bhoys picked up a 5-0 victory with Edouard adding the fourth goal with a clever flick from close-range.

And shortly after half-time, Edouard registered an assist, playing the ball into space for Ryan Christie to latch onto and finish.

The Frenchman now has nine goals in 19 appearances this season, which is a decent return.

Celtic fans will be hoping that the 20-year-old can continue to improve and score more goals.

The competition between Griffiths and Edouard is healthy but Rodgers needed the ex-PSG man to step up in Griffiths’ absence.

Celtic fans will be delighted with Edouard’s response as he takes his chance to stake his claim to be the outright starting striker at Celtic Park.
