‘Edouard come outside’: Some Rangers fans wowed by one player’s display yesterday

A number of Glasgow Rangers fans have taken to Twitter to praise Ibrox defender Filip Helander for his superb Europa League display for Steven Gerrard’s charges.

The Gers fought back from a goal down in their last-16 first leg against Slavia Prague to take a vital goal back to Ibrox for the return leg next week.

Rangers’ opponents began brightly and netted in the seventh minute through Nicolae Stanciu, who curled a great effort past Allan McGregor.

However, the Ibrox side drew level in the 36th minute as Ianis Hagi got to the byline and cut the ball back from the unmarked Filip Helander to get the away goal.

Rangers held on for a 1-1 draw, with Allan McGregor pulling off a simply stunning save to keep out – and hang on to – a point-blank Lukas Masopust header late on.

As well as netting the Gers’ goal, Helander delivered a simply brilliant performance at the heart of the defence and kept Slavia’s attackers at bay.
