Edinson Cavani comments on future amid reported interest from Newcastle

Edinson Cavani has told PSG’s official magazine – – that he could remain with the Ligue 1 champions despite his contract expiring in the summer, amid reported interest from Newcastle United’s soon-to-be owners.

Cavani, 33, has dropped down the pecking order at PSG under Thomas Tuchel this season – scoring only seven goals in 22 league and cup appearances this season. His contract is due to expire in June.

soon after reports that a takeover was close to being announced that the club’s prospective owners had made contact with the agent of Cavani, as well as the representatives of both Willian and Dries Mertens.

Cavani has a stunning scoring rate of 200 goals in 301 appearances for the French side, and is closing in on a seventh Ligue 1 title. Amid reports Newcastle are keen on landing him for nothing, Cavani stated he could remain at PSG.

“My career will last for maybe several years still, here or elsewhere, I don’t know,” . “I’ve spoken about it a lot with my entourage. I’ve always said that I would like to quit football rather than football quitting me.”

TBR’s view – Cavani is the perfect purchase for Newcastle

Putting aside whether Cavani would entertain a move to Tyneside, the Uruguayan veteran is ideal for Newcastle. The soon-to-be owners will want to flex their transfer muscle and a big-name signing is crucial.

Cavani, on a free transfer, would be ideal. Newcastle desperately need a talismanic, Shearer-like centre-forward and Cavani can be that man. But would Cavani entertain a move to Newcastle? It seems unlikely.
