Eddie Howe ‘really disappointed’ after Newcastle sell player he was going to start this season

Newcastle United haven’t exactly had a blockbuster transfer window this summer.

Indeed, the Magpies haven’t been all that active in terms of making new signings, but there have been a couple of high-profile outgoings.

Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh have both now left Newcastle, and according to Dean Jones, speaking on the Chasing Green Arrows YouTube channel, Eddie Howe isn’t best pleased about the fact Minteh has gone.

The journalist says that Howe’s plan was actually to use Minteh in the starting XI, but the winger had to be sold in order to comply with the Premier League’s financial rules.

Eddie Howe disappointed by Yankuba Minteh sale

According to Jones, Howe was not happy with the fact that Minteh was sold by Newcastle.

“Howe was genuinely going to, if Howe had kept him at Newcastle and they didn’t have to sell him for financial reasons, he wanted him to start this season, he wanted him on the right side, that’s how good he thought he was, he was really disappointed that they had to sell him in the end,” Jones said.

Newcastle had to sell Yankuba Minteh

While it is frustrating that Newcastle had to sell Minteh, the reality is that if they didn’t sell, things could’ve been so much worse.

Indeed, according to Luke Edwards, Newcastle were within 48 hours of getting a 10-point deduction in the Premier League ahead of the financial deadline.

“It was chaos really. Patience was worn thin and tension was high. There were a lot of disagreements and a lot of arguments. You were getting wind of that, but not reporting it at the time. Thankfully, having said all of that, I was really worried and people at the club were worried that they were heading for a 10 points penalty,” Edwards said.

“We were 48 hours away from that happening, but that last 48 hours they got out of that very well by selling Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh.”

Howe may have been disappointed by this deal, but the reality is that Newcastle had no choice but to sanction this sale.
