Eddie Howe hails £4m Newcastle player who ‘continues to improve’

Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe has praised Magpies captain Jamaal Lascelles ahead of Saturday’s Premier League meeting with Manchester United.

The Newcastleꦑ manager, speaking to , says the Magpies defender has been crucial on the pitch and behind the scenes, and “continues to improve” as a player.

Lascelles🎃 has been with Newcastle through thick and thin over the years. He joined back in 2014 for a reported from Nottingham Forest and has made 238 appearances for the Magpies.

🎀Last season, the 30-year-old struggled for game time and it looked like his days at St James’ Park were potentially coming to an end.

🅺However, an injury to Sven Botman gave the Newcastle veteran the opportunity to stake a claim for regular starts this season.

𝄹Lascelles has made the most of his chance and has been one of the Magpies’ best performers since returning to the fold in the League Cup win over Manchester City.

Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe ‘really pleased’ with Jamaal Lascelles

Howe꧂ loves what he’s seeing from the player, but stressed that he was key behind the scenes even when he wasn’t player. He told TNT Sports: “Jamaal has done really well.

♐“Last year he was brilliant for us behind the scenes, really led the group so well in every aspect, putting the arm around the shoulder of a player who maybe needed that encouragement and that lift.

🧸“Very vocal on the training pitch and authoritative in what he demands from people.

🐽“This year he has had a chance to play due to Sven’s injury and he has really stepped up and produced some very consistent performances.

♔“I have been really pleased with his defending qualities, aerially he is very good for us, scored a massive goal last week, and he continues to improve.”

🍬It’s wonderful to see Lascelles loving life at Newcastle after being out of contention for pretty much the entirety of last season.

🍃The veteran defender has improved so much in such a short space of time, getting back on track in style, and now he’s reaping the rewards.

🌄Not only that, but Lascelles’ character and attitude at the club have been exemplary throughout his time at St James’ Park. So let’s hope he can lead Newcastle to silverware this term.
