Rafael van der Vaart and Dirk Kuyt both believe that Marc Overmars has no interest in becoming Newcastle United‘s new director of football.

The new ownership has given rise to new hope for Magpies supporters. It’s an exciting time for everyone associated with Newcastle right now, but the new custodians have to make the right decisions to take the club forward.

Whoever comes in to replace Steve Bruce has to be a top-quality manager. However, a decision on a new director of football will arguably be an even more important one, and Newcastle simply have to get this right.

Overmars is among the best in the business in that role. He would be a fine appointment, but Kuyt and van der Vaart have both dismissed the idea of the 48-year-old leaving Ajax to join Newcastle.

Kuyt and van der Vaart: Overmars won’t join Newcastle

Kuyt’s comments on and van der Vaart’s on about Overmars to Newcastle United have both been relayed by Dutch outlet . Here’s what they said…

The ex-Liverpool man told: “Being Newcastle United, I understand the interest. If you see what Marc Overmars has done for Ajax, with his buying and selling policy, I think he has learned a bit at Ajax.

“He has done a fantastic job. I don’t think there is a better person for that position than him. The question is: is he going to make that much profit for a club that is going to spend a lot of millions (Newcastle)?”

Van der Vaart said: “He is doing so well that everyone wants him. I think it’s great what they’ve been doing for years, with Edwin van der Sar together.

“It doesn’t surprise me. Maybe it’s a nice challenge at Newcastle United, but I think he would much rather go to Arsenal. He has more of a connection there. I don’t think he’s going to do this (join Newcastle).”

Newcastle have been linked with a number of top names already and Overmars is up there with the very best. He has done a remarkable job at Ajax over the years, and he’d be a sensational option for the Magpies.

However, Overmars’ compatriots, don’t believe for a second that he’ll come to England to join Newcastle, which is a shame.
