‘Don’t know what got into him’… Emerson Royal shocked by what £60m Tottenham teammate did last season
Emerson Royal has now spoken about an incident involving Antonio Conte and Tottenham No.9 Richarlison from last season.
The Brazilian made the comments when speaking to Brazilian YouTuber Fred on the Desimpedidos channel.
So, what did Emerson Royal say about Tottenham teammate Richarlison? Let’s take a look…
What Richarlison did to shock Emerson Royal
Well, the Tottenham No.12 told a story about how Richarlison misunderstood Conte’s prompt to apologise for being late, and instead proceeded to tell the Italian his brutally honest thoughts.
Emerson : “He arrived late at the meeting on the day of the game, and the guy (Conte) said, do you have something to say to the team? Do you want to apologise to the team?
“He asked the other guys who had arrived late too, the guys said “no, just sorry” then I don’t know what got into him (Richarlison).”
“He was supposed to apologise to the group and to Conte right? Then he said ‘ah, I think I need more minutes (game time). I think he understood it that the guy (Conte) asked if he had anything, something to talk about, then he started saying that the formation we played in was (swears). He said a couple of things.”

Clearly, Richarlison thought Conte was opening up the room for suggestions on potential improvements – thoroughly misunderstanding the fact he was only required to apologise for his lateness.
The striker was also part of this conversation with Fred on the Desimpedidos channel.
Richarlison added: “I came out saying everything that came to mind. I need more minutes, this formation is no good.
“I started talking, then the guys behind started laughing and I said what am I doing here? I didn’t understand what he had asked, I started saying what I had already rehearsed.”
Richarlison and Antonio Conte did not click at Tottenham
Clearly – regardless of the misunderstanding – Richarlison did not think too highly of Conte.
In fairness to the South American, he also went public with his demand for more playing time following a 0-0 draw against AC Milan in the UEFA Champions League last season, so at least he was consistent.

TNT Sports Richarlison as saying: “I asked why? They didn’t tell me anything. Yesterday, they asked me to take a test at the gym, that if I was good I would go to the game and, at the time of the game, they left me on the bench. These are things that it is not possible to understand.
“Let’s see what he (Conte) will say tomorrow, but there are no fools here either, I’m a professional, I work every day and I want to play. I think I should have played and I don’t have to cry about it.”
Richarlison certainly seems a lot happier under Ange Postecoglou with goals in 25 appearances, and long may this positivity continue with the Australian in charge.
