‘Don’t get that’… ESPN pundit baffled by what £27m Tottenham player has done in January

Steve Nicol has admitted to being baffled after Radu Dragusin decided to sign for Tottenham Hotspur in the January transfer window.

Radu Dragusin was potentially involved in the first saga of this window. The Romanian was attracting attention after an impressive first-half of the campaign with Genoa.

Tottenham started to step up their interest in Dragusin towards the end of December. But just at the moment where it seemed that Spurs were on the verge of winning the race, Bayern Munich looked to hijack the move for Dragusin.

Steve Nicol confused Radu Dragusin chose Tottenham over Bayern Munich

There were reports claiming that Dragusin would prefer to join Bayern. However, the 21-year-old ultimately decided to sign for Ange Postecoglou and Spurs, becoming their second signing of the window after Timo Werner.

Dragusin seemingly sees a move to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as one which will be better for his career. However, speaking on , Steve Nicol insisted that he should have joined the Bundesliga giants.

“I would suggest it would be easier for him to get in the Bayern team because Upamecano has been having a torrid last 12 months, maybe even 18 months. Even then, you’ve got to go to Bayern, because you know they’re going to be competing for the Champions League. And you’re probably going to win the league. I don’t get that, I’d absolutely go to Bayern Munich over Spurs,” he said.

Better move for his career right now

Tottenham ultimately paid nearly to sign Dragusin this month. And they will hope that that deal proves to be as inspired as the move to sign Micky van de Ven in the summer.

Nicol is right to suggest that he may find it difficult to secure a regular spot in the Tottenham team. Van de Ven and Cristian Romero have been outstanding together.

However, both of the pair have spent a reasonable amount of this season on the sidelines at various stages. So Dragusin may just have to be patient before he gets his opportunity.

But given that he is still only 21, the defender does not need to rush in his push to reach the top.
