‘Don’t even think about it’: £70k-a-week Everton player now thinks he’s starting to pick up a Scouse accent

Everton captain Seamus Coleman has admitted that he’s starting to pick up a Scouse accent.

It’s no surprise that Coleman is beginning to pick up a Scouse accent given how long he’s been in the area.

Coleman arrived from Sligo Rovers in 2009, and is now one of the most experienced players in the Premier League.

Everton only paid £60,000 for Coleman, a fact that Everton fans love to remind him of in one of his songs.

Coleman has now made nearly 400 appearances for the Toffees in his time at the club, and has been captain since 2019.

He’s taken on all the roles of a leader in the dressing, and new signing James Tarkowski admitted he texted him before he arrived at the club.

, and it will be interesting to see if he’s offered another extension.

Local fans won’t want to see Coleman leave yet, especially as their Scouse accent has started to rub off on him.

“My accent has softened a bit” – Coleman

“They (Coleman’s daughters) both have Scouse accents! They definitely have. It’s strange, my wife and I are both Irish, but we don’t even think about it.

“It’s when we go home as a family and people go, ‘Oh my God!’

“With my accent, I think I have softened it a bit since I first came over.

“I remember in my early days here, on a Saturday night, I’d be ringing Steve’s chip shop for a takeaway, and they didn’t have a clue what I was saying! I had to slow it down!”

Coleman has been a valuable servant to Everton, but his time as first choice right-back may be coming to an end.

The form of Nathan Patterson this season has been brilliant, and he was very unlucky to pick up an injury on international duty.

He was absent for much of last season with an injury after arriving at Goodison Park from Rangers.

However, it was noted that he had put on a lot of muscle in that time, and this really helped him when the season started.

Patterson will have to spend a long time in the area to start picking up a Scouse accent like Coleman.

Everton fans will be hoping they’ve found their replacement for the incredibly loyal Coleman.
