‘Don’t be surprised’ if Tottenham make bid for 24-year-old Chelsea player now

Tottenham have work to do in the January transfer window.

Spurs had a great start to the season, but their progress was far too easily derailed by an injury crisis that has highlighted their lack of depth.

Spurs don’t have enough depth at the back, while two of their key midfielders are off to the African Cup of Nations in January.

Spurs need to bolster both positions, so why not sign a player who can play in both?

Speaking on , Ben Jacobs has been discussing Spurs’ January plans, and he’s mooted Trevoh Chalobah as a potential target.

Chalobah could be a target

Jacobs shared his verdict on Chalobah and his next move.

“Trevoh Chalobah will be an interesting name. Bayern was his club of destination, but you might find a Premier League club come in. Nottingham Forest tried, but he wanted European football, at that point Spurs weren’t on the radar because they’d just signed Micky Van de Ven. He’s available on the market and probably at quite a good price as Chelsea want to resolve that one early in the window. Don’t be surprised if Tottenham pivot from this longer-term young centre-back to maybe a more proven Premier League player who can do a job until some of these other names come back,” Jacobs said.

Would make sense

This is a move that makes the world of sense in our view.

Not only is Chalobah capable of playing in both positions that Spurs desperately need to fill, he’s already settled in London and proven at Premier League level, and, as Jacobs says, he could be available for a good price as Chelsea want to move him on.

Spurs would be wise to go and pursue this deal in January, as Chalobah ticks a lot of boxes for Tottenham and provides plenty of depth.
