Don Hutchison urges West Ham to sign goalscoring midfielder with £16.9m price tag
that West Ham United are closing in on the signing of Slavia Prague midfielder Tomas Soucek after having an initial bid rejected – and ex-Hammers midfielder Don Hutchison has urged his old club to complete a deal.
Soucek, 24, has been in stunning form for Slavia Prague this season – scoring 12 goals from the middle of the park in just 26 league and cup outings. Two of those goals have come in the Champions League, against Borussia Dortmund and Inter Milan.
Indeed, the Czech Republic international has even captained his side in five of their six Champions League group games. West Ham are crying out for a midfielder, and had an offer of £12.5m rejected before meeting Prague’s asking price of £16.9m.
It is believed – with a fee having been agreed – that Soucek is on his way to London to undergo a medical and sort out personal terms. Former Hammers ace Hutchison believes the signing of Soucek would be a “cracking” one for David Moyes’ men.

TBR’s view – West Ham desperately need a goalscoring midfielder
Manuel Lanzini has failed to replicate the form he showed before suffering an anterior cruciate ligament problem in the summer of 2018. Prior to his injury, he scored 20 and created 15 in 99 Hammers outings.
After the problem, he has scored just one in 28 games. Samir Nasri left the club in the summer, and Felipe Anderson is now injured. Moyes needs a midfielder to nab the odd goal and Soucek is the ideal man – especially at £16.9million.
