Don Hutchison says he would ‘not be surprised’ if Tottenham hired amid Everton reports
Rafa Benitez’s proposed move to Everton to replace Carlo Ancelotti is off, according to a . Fans were unhappy about the potential arrival of an ex-Liverpool gaffer. It comes amid comments from ex-Everton star Don Hutchison that Tottenham could look to land Benitez.
The report states that Everton were looking at appointing ex-Liverpool, Real Madrid, Chelsea, Inter Milan and Newcastle boss Benitez. But a backlash from supporters has seen Everton choose against hiring the Spaniard. It leaves him back on the market, ahead of the 2021-22 campaign.
Now, Hutchison reckons Spurs could take advantage of Everton backing out of a move for Benitez. He thinks Tottenham could look to hire the experienced Spaniard, after moves for Antonio Conte, Paulo Fonseca and Gennaro Gattuso all fell through. He says Benitez would love to join Spurs.

Is Benitez the man to take Tottenham forward, amid Hutchison claims?
No, but that being said, can Tottenham afford to be picky? Tottenham need a manager that wants to play attacking football and give freedom to their attackers. That might just be the first step in seeing Harry Kane stay put. The focus on defensive work and shape spelt the end of Jose Mourinho.
Benitez is similar to Mourinho – a winner, but defensive-minded. He would hardly change the way Spurs set-up. While he would jump at the chance to manage Tottenham, surely Spurs would be better off going after someone like Graham Potter? Time will tell, if they do heed Hutchison’s claim.
