Don Hutchison compares Kai Havertz to Arsenal star, amid reported Liverpool interest
Don Hutchison has compared Bayer Leverkusen wonderkid Kai Havertz to Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil , amid reports that the German ace is a summer target for the Gunners and Liverpool.
Havertz, 20, continued his excellent 2019-20 campaign under Peter Bosz on Monday night with an excellent brace as Leverkusen earned a comfortable 4-1 win over Werder Bremen. It takes his tally to 12 for the season, as well as eight assists.
Havertz is at the top of Liverpool’s list ahead of the summer window. , meanwhile, say Arsenal, Tottenham, Chelsea and Manchester City are all interested in Havertz. Leverkusen want £90million.
Hutchison discussed Havertz’s future following his goals on Monday night and stated that he thinks Havertz is already too good for Leverkusen. He thinks Havertz would be a good fit for Liverpool, before comparing him to Ozil.
“In these uncertain times, there aren’t a lot of teams that could spend £100million,” . “I think he’s far too good for Leverkusen. He goes to one of the very biggest clubs in Europe. The talent is there at 20 years of age.
“In the UK press they’ve mentioned he is a clone of Michael Ballack, I disagree – I think he is totally different. One player I would liken him to is a taller, faster Mesut Ozil. He’s very silky, easy on the eye, Liverpool would be a great fit.”
TBR’s view – Does Havertz move on this summer?
Unless Leverkusen reduce their asking price, it is hard to see whether Havertz does leave Leverkusen. Of the clubs that are interested, Manchester City are arguably the only side you could see splashing out almost £100million on a player.
However, Leverkusen may look to reduce their asking price for Havertz in the coming months given the current global health crisis and that could see the attacker move on. Listening to Hutchison’s praise, Liverpool and Arsenal must keep tabs.
