Dominic Solanke equals Tottenham record set by Rafael van der Vaart with his double against Aston Villa

Dominic Solanke was the hero of the hour for Tottenham as they hammered Aston Villa in fine fashion to cement their top four credentials.

Solanke scored an impressive double to help Spurs come from behind and see off Villa, who has led initially through Morgan Rogers.

However, an inspired second half from Tottenham after some words from Ange Postecoglou saw them home and in the end, it was comfortable.

Of course, for Solanke, it’s vital to keep scoring goals and having signed for huge money in the summer, Solanke already has five goals in all competitions.

And in another important note for Solanke, he’s now become the first Tottenham player in over a decade to produce the goods in his opening eight Premier League games.

Dominic Solanke equals Rafael van der Vaart record with Tottenham double v Aston Villa

Any striker is happy to score goals and Solanke has had the big task of being the main man at Tottenham since Harry Kane left.

His four Premier League goals have been a good start though and according to the stats, he’s now equalled the record set by Dutch midfielder Van der Vaart in 2010/11.

“Dominic Solanke is the first player to score at least four goals in their first eight Premier League appearances for Tottenham since Rafael van der Vaart in 2010-11,” the confirmed.

Solanke can fire Tottenham into the top four

Spurs went big when they splashed £60m on Solanke in the summer but so far, it’s looking like money well spent.

Eyes will always be on the strikers in football and scoring goals at Premier League level is one of the hardest jobs in the game.

Thankfully, Solanke seems more than settled in at Tottenham now and if he can continue this form, then a 20-goal season is well within reach.

Tottenham have ambitions of getting into the top four and with Solanke in such form, that’s a very realistic possibility.
