‘Doesn’t look as committed’… Pundit says £50m Chelsea player has got worse under Mauricio Pochettino so far
Robbie Earle believes that Ben Chilwell looks nothing like the player who started the season for Chelsea, insisting that the left-back does not look as committed.
The comments come off the back of another huge blow to Mauricio Pochettino’s side. The Blues were beaten 4-2 by Wolves on Sunday, with Matheus Cunha bagging a hat-trick.
It has been a miserable couple of years for Chelsea fans. Every time there appears to be a chance that they have turned a corner, they end up finding new lows. And they have now conceded eight goals in their last two games.
Ben Chilwell getting worse for Chelsea
Ben Chilwell struggled to contain Pedro Neto during the loss to Wolves. And speaking on , Robbie Earle insisted that the 27-year-old has regressed significantly over the course of the campaign.

“Poch wants to do it a certain way. He was signed to, and I hate the word, the project to develop this young talent and build a team. We’re now 22, 23 games in, we are in a situation where I’m not sure he knows anymore from the first day of the season what his best XI looks like,” he said.
“The defence, if you had to pick your best back four, I’m not sure you’d know. Chilwell’s nowhere near the player he was when he started the season. I know he’s had an injury. Doesn’t look as committed.”
Problems mounting up for Mauricio Pochettino
In Chilwell’s defence, some of his statistics from the game were actually impressive. The star won five tackles, according to . Meanwhile, he made three key passes – which was more than any other player on the pitch.
The worry for Chelsea fans is that there appears to be so many problems to address. On paper, their squad appears to have so much talent. They have certainly spent enough on their ranks.
And yet, they only appear to be moving backwards week-in, week-out.
The Chelsea hierarchy will know that changing Mauricio Pochettino may not be the answer. Ultimately, they have seen several managers struggle now. And it is hard to know where exactly they go from here.
Certainly, a number of their key players, including Chilwell, need to step up considerably to try and drag the team out of their current rut.
