Does Arsenal’s reported £170k-a-week offer suggest Lacazette is about to leave?- TBR View

Alexandre Lacazette’s disappointing 2019-20 campaign has seen the French striker continually linked with a move away from Arsenal this summer – and a reported offer to a Real Madrid attacker could be further proof Lacazette is set to leave.

, the Inter Milan have identified Lacazette as the ideal replacement for Lautaro Martinez. The Argentine striker continues to be linked with big-money moves to both Barcelona and Manchester City.

Lacazette, 29, has scored nine goals in 26 games for Arsenal this season – and his lack of form was evident in the 3-2 loss to Brentford in a behind-closed-doors friendly this week. Despite scoring, he was to blame for one of Brentford’s goals.

His exit looks likely. Lacazette is earning £180,000 a week, and such a move would see Arsenal wipe out a huge chunk of their wage bill – certainly, the Gunners will have to sell if they are to bring in new players.

Arsenal agreed a wage deferral, after some extensive talks, in order to keep the club’s finances in check. To sign new players, then, selling some first is a necessity. Offloading Lacazette could help Arsenal bring in some new players.

Arsenal are ready to offer Real Madrid striker Luka Jovic a whopping £170,000 a week – with the Serb on the fringes at the Santiago Bernabeu. Jovic has struggled in his first season as Karim Benzema’s back-up.

But given that Arsenal need to sell before they can buy, and that Lacazette’s wage and the reported offer for Jovic are similar – surely the reported offer for Jovic is a hint that Arsenal could be open to sanctioning Lacazette’s exit?

Jovic is younger, stronger and has the ability to create as well as score goals – perhaps something that could have been said of Lacazette before this season. But surely the move to sign Jovic and the reported offer is a sign that Lacazette could leave.
