‘Dodgy’, ‘2/10’: Media hammer Newcastle United loanee for display last night, say he made three big mistakes
Newcastle United loanee Martin Dubravka made his second appearance for Manchester United last night, but he’s been hammered by the media after his display against Burnley.
Dubravka fell down the pecking order at St James’ Park after Eddie Howe moved to bring in Nick Pope over the summer.
Pope has been outstanding between the sticks for Newcastle and has played a key role in their surprise emergence as top-four contenders.
Dubravka completed a switch to Old Trafford over the summer on a season-long loan deal after it became clear he would be playing a back-up role to Pope.
The 33-year-old had been ever present for Newcastle over the past three seasons but asked to leave to fulfil .
The Slovakian’s dream continued last night as he was handed his second start under Erik ten Hag in the Carabao Cup. But the Newcastle man put in a shaky display and left the media completely unimpressed.

United managed to book their place in the quarter-final after beating Vincent Kompany’s side 2-0 at Old Trafford.
Goals from Christian Eriksen and Marcus Rashford either side of half-time did the job for Ten Hag’s side, but the media wasn’t impressed with Dubravka’s display.

The outlet wrote: “United’s most curious recruit of the summer and it showed again with a dodgy punch that almost resulted in an own goal and even dodgier distribution.”
Dubravka received a slightly more generous rating from as the outlet rated his performance a five out of 10. But he was apparently lucky to not concede at Old Trafford last night.
“Very fortunate to escape with a clean sheet. Made three high profile errors – the worst of them allowing a simple back pass to roll under his foot,” they said.
“David de Gea won’t be worried about his starting XI place in the Premier League.”
handed Dubravka his worst rating of the bunch – two out of 10. The outlet echoed the thoughts of the Mail and MEN, stating that he looked ‘extremely uncertain’ last night.
Dubravka was a relatively solid performer for Newcastle but there’s no doubt that Pope represents a significant upgrade for Howe.
If Dubravka continues to put in shaky displays for the Red Devils, it seems likely that he will end up back at St James’ Park next summer. He’s only made two appearances under Ten Hag in the League Cup and he certainly won’t be putting any pressure on De Gea with performances like the one he put in last night.
