Docherty can show why Rangers should ignore Adam’s come-and-get-me plea

Former Rangers midfielder Charlie Adam has revealed he is keen to return to the club.

Speaking about a potential Rangers return, : “Would it interest me? Absolutely, and that’s as far as I would say. But I don’t know what they’re thinking or where they’re at.”

Adam is out of favour at Stoke City, having played just six times this season.

The ex-Scotland international last featured in October and looks certain to exit this month.

But Rangers youngster Greg Docherty – currently on loan at Shrewsbury Town – might have the chance to show why Adam is not the answer for Steven Gerrard’s men.

In an early kick-off on Saturday, Adam’s Stoke travel to Docherty’s Shrewsbury for an FA Cup tie.

Although Adam is out of favour, he played in both EFL Cup games earlier this season and could be selected for the FA Cup.

If the 33-year-old gets some game time, he will line up against Docherty in central midfield.

And Docherty must show Rangers that he can win this midfield battle and be the long-term answer in this department at Ibrox.

The 22-year-old has enjoyed a very impressive season with the League One side, scoring seven times in 27 games.

And the Scotland under-21 international’s youth and energy should convince Rangers to stick with him, instead of offering terms to veteran Adam.
