‘Do you know what?’: Pundit not sure if 22-year-old Arsenal star is actually going to be a top player

William Saliba appears to have unbelievable talent, but we may only know if the Arsenal centre-back is going to be a top player after his second season in the Premier League.

That is the view of Anton Ferdinand, who was speaking on as the panel discussed the Premier League team of the season.

There is absolutely no question that William Saliba has been a revelation for Arsenal. It is remarkable to think now that the Frenchman was still awaiting the chance to make his Premier League debut heading into this campaign.

But Mikel Arteta finally handed him that chance this term. And he has quickly established himself as one of the best in the division in his position.

The Frenchman has formed a superb partnership with Gabriel Magalhaes. And Arsenal have definitely missed him while he has been sidelined with injury recently.

With Saliba only turning 22 in March, it is almost frightening to think of the levels he could reach. But Anton Ferdinand has expressed some caution given that the Arsenal star is less than a year into his career in the Premier League.

“Do you know what? On Saliba, I’m looking forward to seeing what he’s got next year. The only reason why I say it, I know how hard the second year is,” he told .

“First year, adrenaline, people don’t really know you, people don’t really know how you play. The respect levels aren’t really there. The second year’s always the hardest. Listen, I believe he’s got tremendous and unbelievable talent and potential. But until you see them in the second year, you don’t know whether they’re going to be tops or not in my opinion.”

It would be a shock if Saliba was not able to kick on from here. In fact, it appears that only injuries could stop him reaching the summit of the game.

He does have some flaws and has made some mistakes this season. But he has adapted so well. And around him is the core of an Arsenal team which could be around for years to come.

This Gunners side should continue to grow if they do not get complacent after their amazing campaign. And if they keep Saliba for the foreseeable future, it will surely be a sign that are indeed back amongst the heavyweights.
