Do these three Newcastle United players have to improve to beat the drop?

Later this month, Newcastle United travel to unlikely title contenders and current table toppers Leicester City and this match is followed by a massive relegation scrap against their North East rivals Sunderland – the definition of a “six-pointer”.

Following the disastrous result against Bournemouth at the weekend, the match against Sunderland now takes on even greater significance and could go a long way in determining which of the North East clubs will be keeping their place in the Premier League next season with the big boys and who will be slugging it out in the Championship with the aim of regaining their Premier League status.

If Newcastle United do plan on maintaining their place in the Premier League you would think that the match against Sunderland is the starting point to set a marker for the remaining games of the season, with the game against Leicester unlikely to yield anything for the Magpies. Following these two games there’s a number of winnable-looking matches for Newcastle so getting some points on the board and one over their North East rivals could be essential to kick start some life into the team for the run-in.

There’s not much hope or confidence for Newcastle United at the moment but for them to even consider keeping their place in the Premier League there’s massive improvements needed throughout the whole of the squad and I’ve taken a look at three players that are key to Newcastle’s chances of survival this season.
