Djenepo’s rumoured Southampton arrival should end Elyounoussi’s failed spell
Southampton are closing in on a swoop for Standard Liege midfielder Moussa Djenepo,
They that the Saints are nearing the completion of a deal worth 22 million euros (£19.4 million) for the exciting winger, who has eight goals to his name from 2018/19.
Ralph Hasenhuttl did outstanding work with Mark Hughes’s squad to keep the Saints in the top flight with a return to the more exciting, high-tempo football the club was once synonymous with.
But the fact remains that he needs more exciting forwards and that’s in part because one man who was brought in to provide that quality has not delivered at all.

Mohamed Elyounoussi arrived at St Mary’s in June under Hughes, for a fee the was £16 million, but has utterly failed to make an impact on the south coast.
He showed at Basel he has talent, but the fact that he has offered so little under Hasenhuttl means that the arrival of another powerful winger in the shape of Djenepo should really force him out of the exit door.
It just hasn’t worked out and the last thing Hasenhuttl needs is players from a previous regime hanging around if they can’t offer anything – it can’t be good for team morale.
