Djed Spence just proved a clear point to Ange Postecoglou vs Man United with Tottenham boss facing big dilemma
Djed Spence claimed his second consecutive Premier League Man of the Match award for his impressive display against Manchester United.
Tottenham fans hailed Spence’s performance against United as the defender helped the team to keep a clean sheet at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
James Maddison’s first-half strike against the Red Devils proved to be the difference between the two struggling sides as Tottenham won 1-0.
But once again it was their flying full-back who was excellent against United and his display sent a clear message to Ange Postecoglou.

Djed Spence was Tottenham’s best player vs Manchester United
Djed Spence was undoubtedly Tottenham’s best player against Manchester United as he had the left flank on lock for near enough 90 minutes.
Spence’s ability in both the attacking and defensive phases of the game makes him such a useful asset for Postecoglou.
Pedro Porro’s defensive abilities have been questioned, meanwhile, Destiny Udogie has also shown frailties in this side of his game.
But with the former Nottingham Forest star able to do both, he offers Postecoglou’s team much greater security in defence.
Stat | Total | Rank |
Duels won | 6 | 1 |
Final third entries | 8 | 1 |
Sprints | 22 | 1 |
Successful dribbles | 2 | 1= |
Against Ruben Amorim’s team, the 24-year-old won more duels, completed more final third entries, sprints and successful dribbles than any other player.
Postecoglou must keep Spence in the team over Udogie and Porro
Udogie returned to the matchday squad against United, which means Postecoglou now faces a big dilemma as to who his first-choice right-back and left-back should be.
One thing is clear however, Spence should be the first name on the team sheet ahead of both Porro and the Italian left-back.
The 24-year-old’s ability to play on either side will give him a great chance of doing so, but Postecoglou must avoid the temptation of reverting back to Porro and Udogie.
Postecoglou’s decision to omit Spence from the Europa League squad looks more and more foolish every time he plays and the Australian coach can’t afford to make the same mistake again.
