‘Discussed’: Romano says Arsenal looked at 25-year-old in last few days

Fabrizio Romano has claimed on Twitter that Arsenal have considered a move for Arthur Melo in the last few days, but a deal for Bruno Guimaraes would be too complicated for this window.

Romano has confirmed that the Gunners are looking to sign a new midfielder this month. It is one of the areas Mikel Arteta did not manage to strengthen too considerably in the summer. Albert Sambi Lokonga is not yet the finished article.

They have also lost Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny this month. Both are representing their countries at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Several names are in the frame. And it was reported earlier this week that Arsenal were eyeing Guimaraes. Everton and Newcastle were also monitoring him.

The Brazilian has been superb for Lyon. Unfortunately for those who want to see him end up at the Emirates, Romano has suggested that it is unlikely in January. Lyon value the 24-year-old at around £37.6 million.

He did suggest that they have considered another option in recent days.

Here is the update Romano posted on Twitter concerning Arsenal’s midfielder pursuit…

Arthur Melo could be an inspired signing for Arsenal despite Juventus struggles

Arthur has not had the easiest time at Juventus. But he is only 25 years of age. So there is still time for the midfielder to get his career back on track.

Lionel Messi once compared Arthur with Xavi. In fact, he said he was ‘really similar’ to the Barcelona boss. So it could clearly prove to be a real coup if Arsenal did try to bring him to the Emirates.

But there will also be plenty of excitement concerning the other options on the list. Three names are on the radar, according to Romano. Arsenal fans will hope that further details emerge in the days ahead.
