‘Disaster’; ‘disgusting’: These Middlesbrough fans react to potential Woodgate appointment
According to the , Middlesbrough are set to announce Jonathan Woodgate as their new manager.
The 39-year-old coach would be replacing the departed Tony Pulis at the Riverside Stadium. Woodgate worked as part of the Boro coaching staff under Pulis, but has never managed before. However, he knows the club well, having previously represented the side as a player.
Woodgate is also a Middlesbrough local, having been born in the town. He grew up supporting the club and began his career in their academy.
Whilst Woodgate is an iconic figure in the history of the club, many fans will likely have misgivings about his managerial credentials. Boro are currently in dire need of strong leadership. The club failed to play attractive football for much of last season, and fell some way short in their quest to secure a return to the top flight.

Many fans felt disillusioned with Pulis’s leadership, and may fear that Woodgate merely represents a continuation of the former manager’s approach. Woodgate’s lack of experience in the hot seat may also worry supporters.
Lots of Boro fans have taken to Twitter in light of the aforementioned report to give their views on the prospect of the ex-defender taking charge of their club.
