Dirk Kuyt gives exciting verdict on new Liverpool signing Ozan Kabak

Dirk Kuyt has given an exciting verdict on new Liverpool signing Ozan Kabak during an interview with Sky Sports News (Monday, 8.55PM), after the Turkey international completed a loan-to-buy from Schalke to Anfield.

Kabak, 20, has already played for Schalke, Galatasaray and Stuttgart – leaving the German side after they complete the free transfer of Shkodran Mustafi following the German’s Arsenal exit, which saw him leave on a free transfer.

With Kabak at the back, Schalke have been leaky. This season, the German side sit bottom – conceding a huge 49 league goals in just 19 games. But there is a feeling that Kabak has enormous potential, and is one for the future.

It is much-needed cover for Liverpool, though, who have also brought in left-footed centre-back Ben Davies from Championship side Preston. Liverpool icon Kuyt stated he was excited to see Kabak in a Liverpool shirt.

They’ve needed cover and it is perfect for Liverpool to bring in two defenders,” Kuyt said. “I am sure they are ready, normally you don’t see these kind of these kind of deals – but it is a good opportunity.

“I watch the Bundesliga often, my friend Klaas-Jan Huntelaar has just gone there – it is a surprise that Schalke let him go. I think it is a good signing, he is still very young. I’m really looking forward to seeing him play for Liverpool.”

TBR’s view – Kabak can come good, but he is a prospect

Right now, the likes of Davies, Nat Phillips and Jordan Henderson should be trusted ahead of the youngster. Clearly, the decision to get him on loan allows Liverpool to spend little now – and then bring him in in the summer.

That is when they will receive their television money, making more sense to spend big at the end of the season – rather than January. The next six months should be a learning process for Kabak, but he should not be first choice.
