Dirk Kuyt comments on whether this Liverpool side is better than any he played in
Former Liverpool striker Dirk Kuyt believes that the Reds side Jurgen Klopp has built is superior to the one he played in under Rafa Benitez at Anfield.
As per , Kuyt feels that this side is even closer to clinching that elusive Premier League crown than the team containing Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres among others.
He : “We were very close to success. We just missed a small detail to go one step further. With the likes of Stevie and Carra, Mascherano, Torres and many other very good players, we just missed a little something.
“If you see the build-up of the team of Klopp, you see it progressing every time and it looks like it’s now coming to success also in the Premier League. We were a particular team like that, only we couldn’t go one step further at that time. Hopefully this team will do it because, in my opinion, this team now on the pitch is even better than ours.”
TBR’s View – This Liverpool side is far better than Kuyt’s
The Liverpool side Kuyt played in had a very strong spine but lacked quality elsewhere and was unable to turn enough draws into wins to clinch the title.
This current Reds team is stronger all over the pitch, more potent in attack and now just as strong at the back. In Kuyt’s era, their consistency would have been enough to have broken the title duck already.
