Dirk Kuyt comments on the future of two linked-away Liverpool players

that Liverpool duo Mo Salah and Gini Wijnaldum would struggle in Spanish football if they swap Anfield for La Liga this summer – because they are perfectly suited to Liverpool’s style of play.

Both Wijnaldum and Salah featured in Liverpool’s excellent 3-0 away win over Arsenal on Saturday evening at The Emirates – with Salah netting his 26th goal of the season. But both are being linked with Spanish clubs Barcelona, or Real Madrid.

Wijnaldum is available on a free this summer and while Liverpool retain an interest in keeping the experiended Netherlands international, a contract is yet to be signed. Salah has also hinted at a move away, with the two Spanish giants said to be keen.

But Liverpool icon Kuyt has suggested that both Wijnaldum and Salah would struggle in Spain – as they would fail to find a club that suits them better than Liverpool. He believes the Reds are seeing the best of Salah and Wijnaldum, as the style is perfect.

“He’s [Salah] done so well in this team. Liverpool suits him very much. I’m not sure La Liga it would be a good move,” “I’m wondering if he can do the same in another country because the Premier League and Liverpool suits him perfectly.

“As a Liverpool fan, I hope he will stay for a long time but we have to wait and see. It is the same as Wijnaldum – a lot of people discussing his future but also a really, typical Liverpool player. Hopefully Jurgen can keep these players.”

TBR’s view – Which player do Liverpool need more?

Salah, 28, has scored a huge 26 goals this season but it is fair to say that he has been poor in his all-round game. He has not been as creative, but he has been incredible in front of goal and it would be surprising if he did not surpass 30 goals this season.

Wijnaldum does not score goals and he is not high up in terms of stats – but the Dutch midfielder is incredibly important in terms of the engine room. Somewhat underrated, he is a player Liverpool need to keep. But it is hard to look past goals.

If Liverpool have to choose between Wijnaldum or Salah, then the latter is more important – just.
