Director suggests he’s open to sale of Leeds-linked £18m striker compared to Aubameyang
Leeds United have done well in the Premier League this season so far and, with the January transfer window fast approaching, the Whites have the opportunity to bolster their ranks further.
One player linked with the Elland Road outfit in the summer, and who could be potentially available next year, is Stuttgart striker Nicolas Gonzalez.
reported in August that Leeds were in talks over a deal worth at least £15million for the Argentine, and faced competition from Brighton & Hove Albion.
Stuttgart director Sven Mislintat went on to tell the that the Whites were “very serious” about signing the 22-year-old.
However, the former Arsenal man added that “at no point it was really convincing for him or for us”.
, Stuttgart are open to selling Gonzalez in January if their asking price of around €20million (£18million) is met.
The same outlet has also published quotes from Mislintat about Gonzalez, suggesting that he’s open to selling him, and also compared him to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
“A transfer wouldn’t make sense from a sporting point of view, but economically…” Mislintat, who worked with Aubameyang at Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund, told .
“I know that, from Aubameyang’s days in Dortmund, he was always in top shape. He arrived on Friday evenings and was able to play on Saturdays. Nico is one of those guys too.
“The group takes Nico as he is. They accept his strengths and weaknesses. He’s a playful character, which is good for us in certain situations.”

Gonzalez has shown over the past 18 months that he’s a cut above, with a number of strings on his bow including great movement, pace, accelleration and an eye for goal.
His efforts have helped Stuttgart back into the Bundesliga and into the , with from five league appearances this term including a stunner against Hoffenheim.
Given the praise given to Gonzalez by Mislintat, comparing him to one of the Premier League’s most prolific strikers, as well as suggesting the club is open to discussions, Leeds should certainly consider him as an option again if they want to bolster their attacking ranks further.
