Diogo Jota says Liverpool have a ‘great’ 17-year-old, he’s already been tipped to replace Mo Salah one day

Liverpool star Diogo Jota has predicted a ‘great’ future for Reds youngster Kaide Gordon.

When you think about Jurgen Klopp’s side, the likes of Mo Salah, Sadio Mane and Virgil van Dijk are the first players that come to mind. They’re among the best in the world right now and have helped Liverpool become an absolutely incredible side.

However, those three players aren’t getting any younger and the cause for concern about the future when they move on is natural.

Liverpool fans, however, have nothing to worry about as some of the youngsters they have in their ranks have the potential to become future greats. Young Gordon is definitely one of them.

Diogo Jota: Liverpool teenager Kaide Gordon has a great future

Gordon only joined Liverpool in February 2021. The Reds snapped him up for just £1 million from Derby County, which could rise to £3 million through add-ons included in the deal. ()

Nobody really expected Gordon to break into the first team but he has impressed Klopp so much that the Liverpool boss decided to hand him his senior debut earlier this season. The 17-year-old has only played four times for the Reds and he has already scored once. It’s exciting to see what’s next for him and Jota is convinced that he has a huge future ahead of him.

In an interview with , the Portugal international was asked to name a Liverpool youngster who could take over the Champions League in the next few years.

Jota instantly replied: “Kaide Gordon! His future looks great.

The heir to Mo Salah’s throne

Mo Salah is arguably Liverpool’s best player but the Egyptian will not be around forever, even if he signs a new contract. A succession plan needs to be put in place and Gordon may just be the man to replace the 29-year-old one day.

named Gordon as the 28th most exciting young player in world football. The outlet compared him to Salah and even tipped him to take over from the Egyptian in the coming years.

The outlet wrote: “Liverpool’s future looks incredible, with a slew of young stars who look destined for the first team. Kaide Gordon might replace the talisman (Salah) in the current Reds line-up long-term.

“Stylistically, Gordon is the obvious back-up to Mohamed Salah at Anfield – and given how the Egyptian King had his own setbacks, it’s exciting to think about where this 17-year-old could go just from learning from one of the best players in the world ahead of him in the pecking order.”
