Dimitar Berbatov discusses Scott Parker for Tottenham, compares to Arsenal boss
that Fulham manager Scott Parker would be a great appointment for Tottenham Hotspur this summer – and compared the young London-born boss to Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta.
Ryan Mason has been placed in interim charge until the end of the season as Jose Mourinho’s replacement, after the ‘Special One’ was sacked on Monday – leaving Tottenham in seventh place in the Premier League, five points adrift of the top-four spots.
Plenty have been linked. The likes of Julian Nagelsmann, Brendan Rodgers and plenty more have been linked with Spurs – as has ex-Spurs midfielder Parker. Alisdair Gold recently claimed Spurs were keeping tabs on Parker.
Now, Spurs icon Berbatov has discussed whether Parker would be a good managerial appointment for Spurs – a 40-year-old manager who has now spent three years at Fulham. Berbatov believes he is a good option, and compared him to Arteta.
“Scott Parker is working at Fulham. I used to play with him. Great appointment in my opinion. Yes Fulham are struggling but he’s doing a great job. Mikel Arteta at Arsenal also, the same example,” Berbatov said.
“It doesn’t have to be the guy who was playing for your club before but in my opinion he has to be young and in full power of his ability and wake up every morning to say ‘let’s go, let’s go, let’s crush it’.”
TBR’s view – Can Parker take Tottenham forward?
Certainly, it would be easy to get him this summer. Fulham look more than likely to go down and surely, Parker would jump at the chance to manage a side he knows well – having played for the club 63 times between 2011 and 2013.
His style, charisma and nous in the transfer market have given Fulham a chance of Premier League survival. But the tumultuous ownership and the pure amount of signings have seen the Cottagers struggle this season.
Parker is showing signs of huge potential as a manager but if he was to take over at Spurs, he would need a more-experienced head alongside him to help him – but there is certainly a chance.
