‘Difficult season’… Manager admits £21m player Tottenham wanted to sign has really struggled this year

Given how Tottenham Hotspur struggled against Wolverhampton Wanderers before their break, Ange Postecoglou has had a lot to ponder.

Spurs are in the midst of a two week period without a game, with Postecoglou’s side next welcoming Crystal Palace to North London on Saturday.

Tottenham are now at a point in their season when they are expecting to excel again, after all, the likes of James Maddison, Micky van de Ven and Son Heung-min are all fit and available.

And whilst February was a mixed month of results and performances, there’s certainly reason to believe they’ll be an improvement in the next.

That being said, fans will believe that Spurs are already putting transfer plans in place for the coming summer.

Although Alasdair Gold has pointed out something Postecoglou needs to address right now, the squad can definitely progress in the off season too.

And perhaps Tottenham may now reconsider one target Postecoglou was thought to want to bring in, given how he’s struggled this season.

Real Madrid’s Arda Guler was linked with the club recently, and his manager, Carlo Ancelotti, has now been discussing his troubles of late.

Ange Postecoglou may want to revisit Tottenham interest in Arda Guler given how he’s struggled

Journalist shared Ancelotti’s words on X, explaining how injuries have prevented 19-year-old Guler from having any real impact.

Guler signed for Madrid for in the summer, yet has only played 25 minutes in La Liga all season.

Explaining his woes, Ancelotti said: “He has had a difficult season with injuries. He is very young, he needs to [be] patient.

“He needs to reach the level which will be adequate for him to contribute at his level”.

Of course, Spurs were only said to be able to achieve a loan deal for the young Turkey international in the coming summer.

And given how Guler has struggled at Madrid all season, Postecoglou would seem better-advised to explore other Tottenham targets.

Guler clearly still has rich potential, but there seems little advantage from a Spurs point of view in developing a player unless they have a guaranteed option to buy.

And on the topic of young players at Tottenham, Jamie Donley has now been discussing a senior player who is ‘unbelievable’ in training
