‘Difficult’: Alan Shearer says ‘amazing’ Spurs player will struggle to play in his position after World Cup

Alan Shearer has commented on Tottenham and Brazil forward Richarlison after his performances at the World Cup.

Richarlison has three goals at the tournament in Qatar, which is as many as any player not called Kylian Mbappe.

Brazil coasted through to the quarter-finals with a 4-1 win over South Korea last night and Richarlison found the back of the net after a flowing team move.

In a Q&A with the , Shearer was asked about Richarlison and praised his performances in that famous yellow shirt but also pointed out he will find it hard to start through the middle for Spurs upon his return to domestic action.

Shearer on Richarlison

The question was: ‘Is Richarlison underrated in the UK due to his time at Everton when, let’s face it, they were a struggling side for much of his time there? Outstanding footballer and a real asset for Brazil.

Shearer replied: “He hasn’t started a lot for Spurs, either.

“It will be difficult for him there as a nine because of Harry Kane. But he’s been amazing for Brazil, not just in the tournament, but leading up to it, too.

“Like England, Brazil have great options.”

Richarlison was seemingly bought by Spurs as a versatile backup forward to add depth to the front-line for Antonio Conte.

He will surely never be the top pick as a lone central striker for as long as Harry Kane is at the club and rightly so.

We have written elsewhere that Conte could play Richarlison as a number nine and Kane as a number ten but that would require a change of formation and we all know how wedded the Italian is to his methods.
